Current Position

  • Since March 2025, Full Professor at the University of Catania, in the disciplinary sector Chem-03A, carrying out teaching and research activities at the Department of Chemical Sciences.
  • Member of the "Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per la Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali" (INSTM).
  • Since 2022, Member of the Scientific Council of the Center for Research and Innovation in Bio and Nano-Technologies (BRIT) at the University of Catania, responsible for platform no. 4 Nanotech: X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer.
  • Since 2022, Member of the Scientific Council of the Second-Level University Master's Degree in "Power Electronics Devices and Technologies."

  • 1993 – 1996 Attended the PhD program in Chemical Sciences, obtaining the title of Doctor of Research by defending a thesis entitled "Study of MOCVD Thin Film Deposition Processes" under the supervision of Prof. I.L. Fragalà.

  • 1987 – 1992 Degree in Chemistry from the University of Catania, with a final grade of 110/110 cum laude.

Research activity and bibliometric data

The research activity was focused in the field of the synthesis and characterization of inorganic materials. It can be divided in two lines: 1) synthesis of thin film through Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) and 2) synthesis of nanomaterials through wet routes and their surface functionalization with molecular monolayers and Metal-Organic Frameworks.

  • Scientific production documented by 334 contributions, including 168 peer-reviewed publications, 15 book chapters and proceedings, 1 Italian Patent, 26 oral presentations and124 conference contributions.

  • H-index: 37 (March 2025, Web of Science and Scopus).

  • Over 4000 total citations.
