Abstract: The detection of specific analytes for environmental pollution, food safety, and biological applications represents a challenge that can be addressed through the development of selective, sensitive, cost-effective chemosensors. Lewis acidic Zn(II)salen-type complexes are promising optical chemosensors for their tunable spectroscopic properties, that allow detection of neutral, anionic base Lewis, and metal cations, such as heavy metals, biogenic amines, and nucleotide anions.
