Educational goals: to provide the student with a solid background in those chemical principles that are particularly important to Analytical Chemistry. Basic knowledge of the Solution Equilibria, of the most important apparatuses and determinations in Gravimetric and Volumetric Analysis.

Course Introduction. Statistics. Errors in Analytical Chemistry. Reports of the Results. Most utilized Statistical Tests in Analytical Chemistry. Solution Equilibria. Acid-Base Equilibria and Calculations, Precipitation, Complexation and Redox Equilibria. Applications. Description of the analytical process in chemistry. Application of specific analytical methodologies to the solution of practical problems. Analytical Apparatuses, precision, accuracy, sensitivity. Laboratory apparatuses: Analytical Balance and Calibrated Glassware. Gravimetric Analysis. Analysis by precipitation. Formation of precipitates. Gravimetric Determination of nickel as the dimethylglioximate. General Concepts on the Titrations. Preparation of Standard Solutions. Standardization Procedures. Primary Standard Substances. Acid-Base Titrations. Acidimetric and Alkalimetric Determination of Na2B4O7.10H2O. Precipitation Titrations. Determination of chlorides by Mohr, Fajans and Volhard procedures. Separation of carbonates and chlorides. Complexometric Titrations. EDTA Titrations. Determination of Cu2+. Determination of Pb(II). Oxidation-Reduction Titrations.
