Learning Objectives
The course of Advanced Biochemistry provides students with deep knowledge of those bichemical processes particularly interesting concerning variuos physio-pathological aspects.
Detailed Course Content
The principal topics concern:
- Mitochondrial respiratory chain and energy managing.
- Photosynthesis and energy managing
- Nutritional Biochemistry: caloric intake and natrium balance.
- Metabolic changes: nutrition-fast cycle.
- Glicemy control: metabolic correlations.
- Advanced glycation end products: production and effects.
- Plasmatic lipoproteins (dislipidemy).
- Special aminoacids metabolism (metionin, folic acid, cystein, arginine).
- Mechanisms of hormones activity and growth factors.
- Molecular basis of angiogenesis in tumors and neurodegenerative diseases.
- Elements of Neurochimistry.
- Biochemical laboratory.
