Brief history of the Ph.D. School in Chemical Sciences, University of Catania
Since the very beginning the Ph. Program has been internationally oriented with most Ph. D students spending periods abroad working at their theses in Universities or in Industry Research and Development Sectors. Research experience at Catania and other Universities, as well as presentation of their results at international meetings, allowed the formation of international high-profile researchers, as testified by prestigious positions presently occupied by Ph. Alumni in Universities, in Industries and in Public Administrations. The international character of the program was formally recognized in 2008 with the change of name into “Dottorato Internazionale di Ricerca in Scienze Chimiche”. At present the program has collaboration agreements with the University of Sciences and Technology of Lille (USTL, Lille 1), with Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille (ENSCL), and with the University of Gothenburg.
Coordinators of the program include prof, Mario Piattelli (I-III cycles), prof. Enrico Rizzarelli (IV-VI cycles), prof. Salvatore Fisichella (VII-IX cycles), prof. Giuseppe Musumarra (X-XII cycles), Prof. Giuseppe Arena (XIII-XV cycles), prof. Gaetano Tomaselli (XVI- XVIII cycles), prof. Giovanni Marletta (XIX-XXI cycles), prof. Corrado Tringali (XXII-XXIV cycles), prof. Giuseppe Musumarra (XXV-XXVIII cycles) prof. Roberto Purrello (XXIX cycle), prof. Salvatore Sortino (XXX cycle - to date).
